Links
These are some websites I enjoy reading. Heathens and Pagans are a strong-minded bunch and don’t always agree with each other on all areas of belief and practice, so it goes without saying that including a link here does not necessarily mean I endorse everything the writers do and say. These are simply websites I have found to be interesting, inspiring, helpful, or thought provoking in some way. Some of these writers identify as Heathen, others more broadly Pagan or polytheist, and at least one of the websites is written from the perspective of an academic mythologist. The common thread here is the worship of Norse/Anglo-Saxon gods.
ADVENTURES IN VANAHEIM – Musings on Vanic Paganism, gaming, fiction, and socio-political issues from a lesbian feminist perspective.
ALARIC ALBERTSSON – Anglo-Saxon Pagan and author of Travels Through Middle Earth and Wyrdworking.
BIRD, BOOK & BONE - Blog of Khrabanas, animistic vitki.
ELHAZ ABLAZE – Chaos Heathenism from a group of Heathen mystics. “Our work flows from Heathen lore but we regard the rampant anti-spiritual attitudes of many Heathens to be boring, untrue to history, and frankly a waste of time”.
EMBER VOICES - Blog of Ember Cooke, Vanatru gythia.
FLAME IN BLOOM – Dancing for Freyja.
FREO’S GIFT - Fyrn Sidu for Modern Times. This is one of my very favourite Heathen websites, written from the perspective of a modernist Anglo-Saxon Heathen and Haegtesse.
GANGLERI’S GROVE – Website of prolific author Galina Krasskova. I am aware that this author is controversial amongst orthodox Heathens. Even I, as a fairly liberal Heathen, do not share some of her practices such as painful ordeal work or worship of those Jotnar generally regarded as enemies of the gods. I do however find Galina to be an intelligent and devoted Heathen who makes a lot of valid points on other Heathen issues, and I greatly appreciate her efforts to incorporate devotional practices and direct spiritual experience into Heathenry.
GARDENSTONE – Author of Goddess Holle, The Mercury-Woden Complex, and other books.
GOLDEN TRAIL – Interesting blog from a Portuguese polytheist, including his efforts to create a Romanized cult of Freyr.
LADY OF THE LABYRINTH – Maria Kvilhaug’s site on Norse mythology and general spirituality.
MARIS PÁI – Hedgewitch and mystic dedicated to Freya and Frey.
THE NORSE MYTHOLOGY BLOG – Written by an academic author, Dr Karl Seigfried, this blog includes intelligent essays on various areas of Norse mythology and the influence of Norse mythology on modern culture. Also includes interviews with leading members of Ásatrúarfélagið in Iceland, and with authors and musicians inspired by Norse myth.
THE POLITICAL PAGAN – Commentary on Paganism and politics in the United States, from a leftist-liberal point of view.
VANATRU - A Living Theology.
WANE WYRDS – Exploring the Vanic Path.
WYTCH OF THE NORTH – Blog of Beth Lynch, author and seiðkona.
MAGAZINES
ETERNAL HAUNTED SUMMER – Pan-pagan online magazine with poetry, fiction, essays, reviews and interviews. There is generally some Heathen content in each issue.
HEX MAGAZINE – A spiritually nourishing publication focusing on all aspects of Heathen lifestyle.
HUGINN – A Journal of Alternative Heathenry.
I am not a Heathen purist, and as such I also enjoy reading the works of other polytheist, nature-based, and/or magically-oriented writers. These are some of my favourite sites of this type.
DRUID LIFE – Blog of Nimue Brown, Druid author.
POPPY PALIN – Green-spirited author and illustrator.
RAE BETH – Author of the Hedge Witch series. The Green Hedge Witch is particularly recommended due to its general Northern Tradition focus.
THE WILD HUNT - Blog covering news of relevance to Pagans and Heathens.
