About Me
I am Ingirún, a Norse-focused polytheist from England. My own take on Heathenry is holistic, balanced and life-pervading, having equal room for lore study and personal spiritual experience, inspired by the past but relevant for the present. I accept that there is more than one way to be Heathen, as was the case in ancient times, and am generally tolerant of interpretations, beliefs and practices that differ from my own, although I begin to lose patience with authors who pass off their own inventions as historical fact, and I don’t see why I should tolerate those who are themselves intolerant (e.g. those who believe bigoted attitudes such as racism, sexism, homophobia and religious fundamentalism have a place within Heathenry).
I am not affiliated with any Heathen or Pagan organisation; I wish to remain non-partisan and refuse to compromise my beliefs to fit in with group policies. I feel that remaining independent may help to retain as unbiased a view as possible of the books that I review in The Nordic Polytheist Bookshelf. The books I review are written from a variety of perspectives, including that of the scholar, the mainstream Heathen, and the more eclectic Pagan who worships Norse gods outside of a reconstructionist context. It is my intention to offer an overview of the different kinds of Heathenry and Norse Paganism on offer, from my own independent perspective.
Reviewing a book does not automatically mean that I share the author’s beliefs and practices. Those who read The Nordic Polytheist Bookshelf will see that I am critical of certain approaches. I do however aim to remain independent minded and judge a book based on its actual content, rather than jumping to preconceived conclusions based on such things as an author being unpopular (or, for that matter, popular) within some subsets of Heathenry, or allied with a form of Heathenry or Paganism that I do not personally practise. I believe there is more than one way to worship the gods, and am prepared to listen to what authors with differing views to myself have to say, even if I don’t always agree with them. I feel it is important to carefully consider other perspectives before forming an opinion, rather than merely basing opinions on unexamined prejudices.
Like-minded Pagans/Heathens are welcome to contact me using the form below. Please be aware that I do have other commitments outside of the internet, so cannot guarantee an immediate response.
Please note: this site and my page on Lulu.com are my only web presence. I have no connection with any other websites or individuals who may be using the name Ingirún.
